Curiously wonderful sculptures suspended in space by Matt Hinkley

These intriguing polymer clay sculptures are part of an on-going series by Melbourne-based artist Matt Hinkley. Colourful and weird, the irregular shaped fragments float in front of walls, demanding closer inspection. Exhibited from inconspicuous white fittings, they appear like small, intricate pieces of retro ceramic or the soles of wacky shoes worn in Saved by the Bell.

Digging around in the caverns of the internet, there isn’t much more info to go on, but these pieces are rather satisfying nonetheless. Perhaps part of their appeal is how curious they are. Who knows what Hinkley has used to achieve those clean imprints and carefully preserved patterns or why, but these graphic looking sculptures get a big thumbs-up from me.
