We’re excited to announce another jam-packed line-up of talks for April’s Nicer Tuesdays in London. Taking to the stage this time around will be Chloé Legret and Abbie Lilley of Studio Nari, taking us behind the scenes on their recent visual identity for London-based electronic music festival Field Day. Next, artist and sculptor Hannah Lim will be talking us through the development of her broad yet intricate practice with a look at some of the process behind her playful and peculiar objects.
Then, Vince Ibay and Jessica Miller of 3D design studio Fromm will be giving us a glimpse into their creative process demonstrating just how they animate with such otherworldly and analogue charm. And last but certainly not least, London-based Peruvian photographer Ana Flores will take to the stage to walk us through the development of her unique photographic language and how she is paying tribute to her homeland with feminist perspectives front and centre.
The event will take place on 1 April at EartH, Hackney, with doors opening at 6pm. As this is an 18+ event, please bring ID with you to the venue. If you are in need of disability access, please make yourself known to a member of the EartH team on the night or email hello@nicertuesdays.com so we can arrange assistance. Read more about April’s speakers below.
Chloé Legret and Abbie Lilley of renowned London-based design and branding agency Studio Nari will be taking to the Nicer Tuesdays stage to give us an insight into the studio’s people-centred approach to branding, deep diving into the recent identity for Field Day to unpack their process. A branding project that celebrates the music festival’s 15th anniversary in London’s electronic music scene this spring, the Nari team will uncover how they’ve crafted an ever-evolving system with roots in the events genre and community, that perpetually develops with the festival.
Hannah Lim’s delicate sculptural works are made to reflect parts of her identity as an artist of mixed Singaporean and British Heritage; they also “appear to have a life of their own”. Playful and peculiar, her colourful creature-like forms are both ornamental and functional objects that comment on Chinoiserie, an 18th century aesthetic trend in which elements of Chinese design were recreated to European tastes. Joining us to take the Nicer Tuesdays crowd through the development of her research and creative process, Hannah Lim will be detailing how she’s been reclaiming designs from the era.
Experts in all things camp, kitsch and pop culture, 3D design studio Fromm will be walking April’s Nicer Tuesdays crowd through a few of its recent commissions, including the show-stopping Selfridges window displays and animated campaign for the London department store’s Selfridges Celebrates series. The studio’s co-founders Vince Ibay and Jessica Miller will discuss their journey and creative methods, giving us a bit of a behind-the-scenes on just how the studio makes its Staffordshire-figure inspired characters and otherworldly digital animations with such analogue charm.
Peruvian-Swiss photographer Ana Flores’ work is a delicate crossover of documentary and fashion photography, digging into adornment and identity in her homeland. When we first discovered the photographer’s recent series Donde Florecen Estas Flores (Where These Flowers Bloom) we were blown away by her tribute to the Andean women of her birthplace, Cusco. Joining us on the night to give the crowd an insight into some of the processes behind the documentation of this wonderful project and a handful of other photographic works, Ana will trace the journey of her practice from self-taught startup to the development of a photographic language where feminist perspectives play a central role.
