We’re finally back! We’ve spent the summer cooking up a corker line-up just for you. Come and complete your summer of creative inspiration at EartH Hackney for our September Nicer Tuesdays in London.
At this month’s event, you can expect talks from An Chen, an artist and designer reflecting on the importance of staying true to her vision, and Robin Howie, founder of the London-based design studio for “uncharted territories” Fieldwork Facility, who is working at the intersection of communication, innovation, and place. Following our talks for the evening, the beloved Anthony Burrill will be talking to the stage for a Q&A with It’s Nice That’s associate editor Olivia Hingley, reflecting on the ideas behind his bold typographic work and timeless, optimistic slogans, as well as the thinking that continues to shape his creative practice.
Make sure to get down to the event at 6pm when the doors open to have the chance to grab a drink and snack from our sponsors El Rayo and Lovecorn. Alongside our sponsors this month, there will be a musical accompaniment from Epidemic Sound, who will be curating the soundtrack for the evening and will also have a booth where attendees can listen to their catalogue and take home some merch.
The event will take place on Tuesday 2nd September at EartH in Hackney. Doors will open at 6pm and the talks will begin around 7:15pm. The full address is EartH, 11-17 Stoke Newington Rd, London N16 8BH. It’s a seated event, so get there early to ensure a seat and pick up a drink beforehand!

Anthony Burrill, one of the UK’s most recognisable graphic designers, is known for his persuasive, up-beat style of communication and hopeful slogans, alongside several books on design such as Look & See, Make Your Mark On The World and Joy Pure Joy. Anthony’s most significant work was born from a longstanding collaboration with the traditional letterpress print workshop Adams of Rye, leading Burrill to produce countless typographic works, producing pieces that have graced hundreds of walls and spawned even quite a few rip offs, as covered on It’s Nice That in May. In his talk, he’ll reflect on the ideas behind these messages, how they’ve evolved over time, and the work ethic that continues to lead his work to new places.
An Chen is a Taiwanese illustrator currently based in London. Specialising in a dynamic visual style including British modernist linocut prints and matchbox designs from Lipnik, she transforms organic objects with clean, angular lines and shapes, creating kaleidoscopic editorial illustrations for a range of reputable clients. An will be sharing her artistic journey, touching on the evolution of her practice, discovering her unique style, and finding her creative language through her work. She’ll also be sharing her reflections on creating work for herself and the importance of staying true to your vision.
At September’s Nicer Tuesdays Robin Howie, founder of the London based design studio Fieldwork Facility, will be exploring how technology shapes the way we interact with the world as well as discussing the studio’s work creating projects that bridge communication and experience for the likes of A Vibe Called Tech, Brent Cross Town and Hammersmith and Fulham councils. We’ll getting an exclusive look into the process behind their recent way-finding work with the brand new V&A East Storehouse, which was named by Londonist as an instantly important museum.
