Vera Lucía Jiménez is a designer making striking work “without a big budget or fancy materials”
Sourcing inspiration from the vernacular design across the streets of her hometown in Lima, the Peruvian designer proves that thriftiness doesn’t need to come at the expense of strong visuals.

One of the core facets of Vera Luciá Jiménez’s design ethos is creating publications with an “underground” mindset. In practice, this means focusing on low-cost production, like using materials and printing techniques available in Peru, like “letterpress machines electronically modified to print in offset”. And it’s this approach that’s made Vera so attractive to clients; her ability to be creative with her resources, while still creating dynamic, striking work: “a concept can still be powerful and aesthetically pleasant without a big budget or fancy materials," she adds.
The topics and areas Vera interacts with through her work varies greatly. Alongside the independent editorial project KWY editions, Vera designs books for emerging and established Latin American photographers. Meanwhile, in her personal projects, Vera enjoys exploring the cross overs between design, communication, language and technology and “thinking about digital culture using analog techniques”.
Alongside her physical design work, Vera is currently an editor at Papeles Continuous, a digital project leading interviews about design that “seeks to think about contemporary design, in its breadth and contradictions, to try to understand the complex circuits in which it transits".
