In October, Inscript Collective’s experimental type festival will be returning for its second instalment. Taking place online, the festival welcomes design lovers from all across the globe, promising five days of innovative explorations into type design, its boundless possibilities and what its future may look like. With more than 30 speakers and moderators the virtual festival will run over five days from 4-8 October 2023.
The festival returns after the success of its inaugural event, which delved into creative coding, physical computing, and innovative uses of traditional craft, and saw nearly 1300 visitors. This time around you can expect to encounter an equally diverse array of topics, from augmented reality and artificial intelligence, to type knitting and ferrofluid creation. “Inscript blends cutting-edge tech and innovative thinking – both elemental in forming our collective reality,” a press release details. “Focusing on design, language, and communication, the conference explores boundaries and provides a space for sharing, learning, and brazen experimentation.”
On the roster this year you can expect talks, sessions, demonstrations and portfolio presentations from a brilliant selection of creatives and practitioners, including Studio Dumbar/DEPT® director and DEMO co-initiator Liza Enebeis, motion and generative designer Kiel Danger Mutschelknaus, Yale’s director of graduate studies Nontsikelelo Mutiti, and Monotype executive creative director Charles Nix. There are also many rising stars in the mix, including gradient-type innovator Lena Weber, AR whizz Rajshree Saraf, and Liad Shadmi who explores the intersections of typography and space.
The festival is curated by strategist and creative practitioner Ksenya Samarskaya, AIG member and former director of Type Designers Conference, alongside type designer Alex Slobzheninov, founder of Contemporary Type, and journalist Loukas Karnis, ex-editorial director of Typeroom.
